Common Baby Problem – Vomiting and Constipation
Common Baby Problem – Vomiting
It’s normal for healthy baby to regurgitate a little food. Vomiting in a well baby who is gaining weight, having plenty of wet and soiled nappies and is reasonably settled is nothing to worry about. However, if vomiting is associated with a yellow color, weight loss, fever, screaming, a change in bowel motions or loss of interest in feeding, see your doctor.
Some baby have quite a lot of vomits in the first year of life, due to gastro-esophageal reflux. If the baby is growing well, does not cough or wheeze and does not seem to have pain from the reflux, then it may not need any treatment. If you are concerned about the amount of reflux, ask your health nurse or doctor about thickened feeds and other measures to reduce reflux. This problem usually settles as babies spend more time upright and begin to eat solid foods.
Common Baby Problem – Constipation
Exclusively breastfeed baby is rarely constipated, but, between six weeks and three months, the number of time they poo decrease until some babies are only doing two a week. many mums get worried at this point and believe the baby constipated, but constipation refers to motions which are hard, dry and difficult to pass, not to the frequency of bowel motions.
If your baby starts on formula or any other food, his motions may change and he may get constipated. If this happens, check that the formula is being prepared correctly. If your baby is constipated, try adding some extra fruit juice (of the type specially prepared for babies). If not consult your doctor.
