How To Fit A Mixer Shower Valve.:

Fitting a mixer shower is normally a procedure for a skilled and experienced plumber, with a few trade tips a competent DIY enthusiast can carry out this procedure without any major problems accruing. Installing this type of shower valve can be a little tricky so if you don’t feel 100% confident I would advise you to employer the services of a suitable expert.
Being prepared is important; before you start the task make sure you have all your tools and materials at hand. You will need basic plumbing tools, copper or plastic pipe and an electric drill. You will also so need some kind of filler to fill in the channels in the wall to conceal the pipe work; GA plasterers Liverpool ^(http://www.jobsliverpool.net/plasterers-in-liverpool.html) normally use a rapid set sand and cement mix for this purpose. You will also need a bucket, trowel and a tube of silicone sealant complete with a sealant gun.

The best place to position the shower is at the end of the bath where the taps are situated, this will reduce the pipe work that is needed in the plumbing process. Ensure that the wall where the shower unit is going to be placed is suitable to mount the shower unit, I would not recommend mounting the shower unit on a wall that is constructed of plaster board as this type of wall construction can be very flimsy. The best type of wall to mount the shower valve on is a brick or block wall as the strength a rigidity is a lot better to support the shower body.

The first step is to channel out two slots in the brick work, roughly at 150mm between the centre of the pipes, most mixer showers have their water in lets at this centre distances but there are a few exceptions so it is worth reading the installation instructions be for you start the installation process.
The next step is to run in two pipe for the hot and cold feeds, normally the hot is on the left and the cold is on the right, but again it is worth checking before you start the installation. You can use either plastic or copper pipe for the task, GA plumbers Liverpool use plastic pipe with push fit connections as it a lot easier to work with and it actually costs a lot less. It also eradicates the need for pluming tools that can be expensive to buy. Now with the water supply turned off cut into the hot water supply and connect the left hand side pipe in the wall to the hot supply pipe using a suitable size T connection, then repeat the same task with the cold supply pipe.

At the top end of the pipes (the shower unit end) fit a suitable elbow to each of the pipes with a short piece of pipe in echc that is cut to the richt size to accommodate the shower valve. Every shower valve is different so the size of the pipes will vary. Now fir the shower valve to the pipes and tighten the connections, fix the shower to the wall and turn on the water to check for leaks, fill in the channels that you have made to conceal the pipe work, and that’s it task done. You may need a bit of tiling work but if you can’t tile yourself call a handyman Liverpool to do the task for you.
