How to Get Inexpensive Home Furnishings
You’re on a budget as you make changes to your home. As you walk through the stores, looking at various home decor and accessories, you cringe at the prices of seemingly simple items, like paintings and wall hangings. You begin to think you’re going to have to live with bare walls to stay within your budget. That won’t be necessary. If you know where to look and if you have some crafting ability, you can find or make accessories and decor for your home and stay within your allotted funds. Ok, How to Get Inexpensive Home Furnishings:
Step1
Develop a budget you and your family can work with. Keep in mind the kinds of items–decor and furnishings–you want to use to decorate with. Decide what you can create yourself and begin to look for those you will need to buy.
Step2
Make those decor items you can make for your home. If you need, use cash from your budget to buy the supplies necessary to make these items. Visit hobby stores and begin pricing (window shopping) decor and furnishing items you are thinking of buying. Compare prices between hobby stores and discount stores with hobby sections.
Step3
If you see an item in a catalog or at a store that is out of your price range, look for something similar at a hobby or discount store. Chances are good you will find something that looks pretty similar but for much less. Look for tall floor vases into which you can put long decorative plants stems. If you visit a discount store’s hobby area, you should be able to find these plant stems in a color which complements your home’s color scheme.
Step4
If you have been given home decor or furnishings as gifts, find ways to incorporate them into your home’s color scheme. It is no longer necessary to stick to only one or two colors to have an attractive color scheme for your home. You can mix and match colors, use some colors as accents, or build a color scheme around two to three colors you want to use. Create unity by using one or two colors in every room.
Step5
As you are purchasing or making home decor items, try to keep more than your budget in mind. Look for ways you can carry your decorating scheme from the walls to your furniture. Keep your decorating scheme in mind as you buy or make different items. If you find a wall swag with some of the colors you are using, carry those colors to table coverings, window coverings, vases or silk plants ^(http://www.1800flowers.com/product-type/plants).
Tips & Warnings:
* Even if you are a student on a strictly limited budget, you can find inexpensive furnishings or decor. Check out consignment stores, which often have these items at a very inexpensive price.
* Look for vintage items in consignment stores and create a vintage theme in your home.
* If you find an old bowl in a consignment store, ask about the lead content in the paint or glaze. Do not use it for serving or cooking food if you aren’t sure about any potential lead content; just use it for decoration.
