Do not try what I did. And I mean it. You see I decided to renovate my kitchen, which was actually addition and the renovation at the same time, and while we were deep in renovation of our kitchen, I saw an opportunity to do a small bathroom renovations, as well. Now this is what I did. I made a plan of what I really had to do with the small space we had. The previous owners, did a little fixing up, but nothing like we did. First off there was this HUGE tub in there and a small sink. It just needed to be gone. I needed more space and functionality, plus at some point down the road we would add another master bedroom in, so I was considering that as well. And eventually my mother will come to live with us.

So taking all that into consideration, I planned it like this:

Get the Tub out, and add in the shower cabin. The shower by itself needed to have elderly accessible feature and I wished to add in the arm holder in the shower also. While my wish on the shower door was to be from glass, we went for plastic because of the future use. Now, taking the tub out, created extra space, so we ended up taking down all the sheet rock and that was the greatest thing we did. You see, there was big space in one wall to add in built in cabinets, creating even more extra space in that bathroom.

Now, I have to say we did have one problem, the floor under the tub was bad. This was really a great thing about working on this renovation as the problem would have gotten inside the foundation for sure! So we had to add attic insulation and of course the floor insulation as well, as the new floor needed to be put in.

Now the only thing that is most likely a mistake is, we installed in the double sink with a cabinet beneath it. Furthermore, that is not the mistake, but since we had to add in tiles, thinking that my mother will use it in the future, that might be a mistake. So there is nothing I can do about it this time. Maybe if we did the laminate floor it would be better, but I guess the time will tell now if it’s to late.

Now my wife’s story is, the frustration of the construction work was something it and not a soul can believe what we actually did with such a small place.
